Did You Know the CNCF Has an Actual Cookbook? Not Metaphorically!

When I first saw the name, I thought it was another tool or guidebook for the cloud, using "cookbook" metaphorically.
But no
This isn't about cloud configurations . It's about something far more delicious.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the CNCF , in collaboration with Equinix Metal, has put together a genuine food recipe book. Yes, you read that right. It’s a collection of recipes crafted not in code but in kitchen.
The Origin Story
It all started during the COVID-19 pandemic when people began spending more time at home, and the Equinix Metal community shifted their focus from their code editors back to their kitchens.
The Slack community's #eats channel at Equinix Metal became busy during that time. Everyone started embarking on small and large projects in their kitchens. They began sharing their mouthwatering recipes and photos. Competitions started among them to test which recipes would be everyone's favorite.
Equinix Metal community members began considering the idea of publishing a book with all their recipes. However, they felt it shouldn't be limited to just Equinix Metal. So, they opened it up to the entire Cloud Native community. They started collecting recipes from across the CNCF community and compiled them into a comprehensive cookbook titled
"Cloud Native Community Cookbook."
The first edition of the "Cloud Native Community Cookbook" was released in October 2021.
Availability
Hard Copies:
The Cloud Native Community Cookbook is available in two hard copy editions: version 1.2 and version 2. These editions are not free and can be purchased through Equinix Metal’s distribution channels.
Soft Copies:
Currently, there are no soft copies available. However, you can find the recipes in the CNCF GitHub repository. Additionally, you have the opportunity to submit your own recipes through a pull request (PR). Who knows? Your recipe could be featured in the next version of the cookbook.
You can also check out an awesome live stream by Alex Ellis and Andy Randall, where they cook recipes from the Cloud Native Community Cookbook. Both Alex and Andy have their own featured recipes in the cookbook:
No Cheese, No Problem Pizza by Alex Ellis
Dino’s Sauerbraten by Andy Randall
Conclusion
The Cloud Native Community Cookbook by Equinix Metal is more than a collection of recipes. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the joy of cooking . Through this project, tech professionals have found a way to connect, share their passions, and support each other during challenging times.
