Understand your Industry, talk to them and see where are coming from.

The correlation between TVET Supply and TVET Industry Demands, is critical in aligning workforce skills with industry requirements. Hence, understanding its Maturity Continuum (IMC) is pertinent to TVET Strategists. TVET programs are specifically designed to cater to the evolving needs of industries as they progress through different stages of the maturity continuum. Understanding their points on the Industry Maturity Continuum enables countries to tailor TVET programs effectively, aligning them with current and future industry demands.

This strategic alignment is crucial for developing a skilled workforce that can drive and support economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness at each stage of industrial development. If countries are unaware of their continuum stages, their TVET programs may become misaligned with industry needs, leading to skill gaps, workforce inefficiencies, and hindered economic growth and competitiveness.

For example, in countries like Germany and Switzerland, which are at the stabilization/peak stage, TVET programs are heavily focused on high-precision manufacturing and engineering skills, supporting industries known for their quality and innovation. Similarly, in Singapore and South Korea, where industries are in the expansion/ascension phase, TVET emphasizes skills in technology, finance, and biomedical sectors, promoting rapid growth and innovation in these high-tech industries.

Furthermore, in transitioning economies like Australia, TVET is crucial for reskilling and upskilling workers as the country moves from a resource-based to a service and technology-oriented economy. This ensures that the workforce remains competitive and capable of supporting new industries that are central to the country’s economic realignment and growth. By continuously adapting to the specific needs of each maturity stage, TVET helps sustain industrial growth and competitiveness across different economies.

The table illustrates how TVET adapts to the IMC stages. Each stage—Emergence, Expansion, Stabilization, Realignment ensuring workforce skills development is tailored to the evolving demands of industrial sectors.
