Story

So there are two characters Bob and Sam, where Bob is the Kid asking adult Sam.

So it goes like

Bob

He asks Sam what is a Block ?

Sam

Lets say we have a box filled with toys and on it say the name Bob. You give it to John and add one new toy to it.

You also mark the name of John on the Box. So now you have a box passed from you to John with both your names on the Box.

So if John passes to Joy by adding a new toy and with a new name on the Box. The toys are passed with new ownership as well as the old ownership.

The same way a Block is like a box of information in JSON along with each block’s current owner as well as the previous one.

Bob

That’s great, thanks. So how do I identify owners ?

Sam

We can identify by wallet address and can check who added the toy (information) checking the previous block.

Bob

That’s great, thanks. What is block no and wallet address ?

Sam

The block no is like counting from 1,2,3 and so on in a series in the same order and helps to identify blocks in chains. Blocks can go from lower order to higher order and so on without a break or miss.

Wallet address is a unique number that stores transactions like we store coins in a normal wallet.

Let’s say you have a school id card with your roll on it. You can check your school marks information with roll no.

The same way we use the address to find the transaction owner as well as the wallet balance of the owner.

Bob

Wow you are a genius. What are tokens now ?

Sam

Tokens are like currency coins we have like 1 ruppe coin, 5,10 and so on. Tokens are the same currency that we can spend to buy something on the Blockchain or we can sell tokens to buy currency like the US dollar, Indian Rupee or British pound.

Bob

What ? That’s so simple !

So Blockchain is like a chain of blocks linked with each other by number 1,2,3 and contains information of the current block and the last block for each block.

One more thing, if I can ask again ?

Sam

Yes please, you can freely ask.

Bob

What is a wallet ? Where do I get my own address ?

Sam

A wallet can be created by installing applications like metamask, trust wallet, near wallet to get an address.

Bob

Wow ! Is that really that simple ?

Do I need to pay anything ?

Sam

No. You don’t need to pay anything to generate an address. But you need to pay when you do a transaction, a nominal amount of gas fees.

Bob

Now what is the Gas fee ?

Let’s say your Dad buys you chips and he takes away some chips as a fee to let you have the chips.

The same way Blockchain Gas fees helps Blockchain owners to operate the chain and also avoid multiple transactions. It’s like your dad will scold you if you try to buy 10 chips at a time.

Bob

Hahah ! That’s really interesting.
