🍃 Lilypad Project Report: July, 17 2024

🌎 Overview

The Lilypad team greatly enjoyed attending ETH CC Brussels including the Filecoin Dev Summit, ETH AI Day, and more! We were energized by feedback from the community and thrilled to meet Lilypad Resource Providers and partners from storage providers to privacy enhancing tools.

The Lilypad IncentiveNet program continues to grow, with stage one focused on incentivizing GPU supply! Resource Providers with GPUs on the network are rewarded with Lilybit_ rewards credits. The IncentiveNet will run continuously from June 2024 to the official launch of the Lilypad Mainnet anticipated in Q4 2024. Lilybit_ credits will be redeemable for Lilypad tokens upon mainnet launch! More details on this will follow once more info on the Lilypad Network tokenomics is released.

GPU providers with RTX 3080s to A100s have joined the network contributing compute capacity for a large variety of workloads. In response to issues identified with the Lilypad Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism, a new Lilypad version has been released. Another Lilypad version will be released soon that should finalize the changes needed to ensure the Proof of Work mechanism functions properly. Thank you to current RPs and those contributing feedback during the testnet!

Update on the IncentiveNet:

• We have been delivering changes to the Resource Provider (RPs) Proof of Work (PoW) process. The team is pushing updates carefully to reduce network disruptions. Although RPs have noticed intermittent issues with their nodes running the PoW, we have the data for when nodes have been online. Lilybit_ rewards allocations should not be affected. Our team will ensure that all nodes meeting the rewards criteria will be accurately credited for their contributions.

• The Lilypad Leaderboard/Metrics dashboard is still under maintenance and will be released as soon as possible! This leaderboard serves as the rewards points hub for all Resource Providers, allowing them to view points earned and verify that the RP is connected to the network.

⚒️ Engineering Update

Supporting IncentiveNet

In order to measure Resource Provider capacity, uptime, as well as prevent sybil attacks, our team has implemented a Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism into the network. Each GPU will generate a hashrate based on the size of the card. This hashrate is used to confirm that a GPU is online and to measure the capacity of a Resource Provider. This info is used to allocate Lilybit_ rewards to each RP.

Each hour, RPs will be tasked with runing the proof and will additionally be tasked to run the proof many times per day at random. The output of this job will provide a hashrate for each Resource Provider based on the size of their GPU. RPs will receive a Lilybit_ rewards multiplier of up to 4x for 24 hours of uptime. In the case of RPs having downtime spanning multiple days, earning capacity will be slashed, decreasing their reward-earning potential. This is to encourage maximum GPU contribution and uptime.

Open Source Contribution guide

The Lilypad network is an open source project that encourages the ecosystem to contribute! We are formalizing a contribution guide for the community to provide a smooth process for participating in the network. This guide provides clear directions for submitting a PR to our Github repo, signed commits, and standard operating procedures to get a PR approved smoothly. The guide is still in the works; stay tuned for more on this.

🔬 Lilypad Research

Over the past two weeks, we successfully established a Jupyter server on a high-performance node equipped with four A100 GPUs, enhancing our development and research capabilities.

In addition, we onboarded our first high-level researcher, providing individualized support to ensure a flawless onboarding process. Our team focused on developing initial modules, specifically fine-tuning and text-to-molecule functionalities (for medical research).

Furthermore, our interactions with the Jupyter node, the newly onboarded researcher, and the friction encountered during module development, informed the drafting of an RFC document. This document outlines a potential user-friendly development environment for the Lilypad Node Architecture, aiming to address the complexities and needs identified throughout our recent work.

Filecoin Orbit Kenya + Lilypad

The Filecoin Orbit Kenya community recently hosted a groundbreaking workshop on AI interoperability, showcasing how Filecoin, Lilypad, and the ecosystem are revolutionizing the intersection of AI and decentralized storage!

We are super grateful for community contributions such as hosting events and will continue to support these groups as the Lilypad IncentiveNet grows to Stage 2! More info on community incentives coming soon.

Parasail x Lilypad

The Lilypad Network and Parasail have announced a strategic partnership. This collaboration aims to scale Lilypad’s distributed compute network, provide economic guarantees to Lilypad’s services, and drive the widespread adoption of decentralized compute.

• Economic Guarantee: Lilypad will work closely with Parasail to incorporate Parasail’s economic guarantee into its service. This integration will offer Lilypad users greater confidence in utilizing decentralized compute, even for industry purposes..

• Incentive Programs: Parasail and Lilypad will collaborate in implementing dual-incentives to scale Lilypad’s compute network and expand the number of service providers.

• Community Engagement: The partnership will foster programs and campaigns designed to incentivize participation and engagement among Parasail stakers and Lilypad users, enhancing collaboration in the DePIN space and removing silos.

Project Spotlight: Basin/Textile

The Lilypad network has partnered with Basin on an PoC focused on creating Synthetic data for AI training. Basin aims to unlock more innovation for AI and ML organizations via their decentralized database and IPC based subnets. A joint POC is in the works and will be showcased soon.

While at ETHCC, Basin and Lilypad shared the stage and announced the partnership! We dove into the benefits of decentralized storage for AI and how Lilypad will use Basin subnets as a scalable service to save large amounts of data for AI Inference.

CEO Ally from team Lilypad joined speakers from Akash, Subquery, and Semoitic Labs at the Serverless Day panel. This event focused on “Enabling AI function in blockchain”. Each team provided uniquie insight into the current market landscape and important use cases for AI and blockchain based systems.

FIL Dev Summit

Our team presented "The role of Lilypad and Filecoin in AI" at the Filecoin Dev Summit. This event highlighted the importance of decentralized, verifiable storage solutions for the AI industry.

ETH AI Day

Ally joined a panel at the newforum_nco Eth_AI Day! This event also focused on the intersection of AI and blockchain based systems to create truly open AI systems free from large corporate interests.

Lilypad in the Korea IT Times
