poppin - irl event tracker

Poppin claims to be "The first app that helps people get off their phones, not stay on them".

this startup promises to enable you to find events going on in your community, see what your friends are up to, and organize hangouts/happenings with your contacts—all seamlessly in one app.

so basically yet another Eventbrite for Genz.

what problem are they solving?

they claim to be an all-in-one, centralized social platform for teenagers and young adults to find parties, throw parties, and build their social network.

It's basically just a platform that streamlines the effort for party-goers to find parties and hosts to find guests.

they want people to use their phones less for connecting and instead meet people more in real life.

and they're helping to reach this goal by giving you an app that makes it easy to find events to go to.

Embracing Reality

they raised a $500k preseed, which is interesting given they are diving head-on into a vastly unprofitable market with a ton of competition.

this is basically another Eventbrite with fewer features poised for Genz to eat up.

which is problematic because this is practically the same space partiful is trying to dominate (and successfully so). so they already right off the bat have a fellow Genz startup competitor that has a lot more funding than them as well as better aesthetics, influence, and features.

there's not much to say about this startup because all skepticism about this space is highlighted in my partiful article.

It's a very unprofitable space, genz's are a very VOLATILE demographic to target and market to, no revolutionary technology or mission here but maybe their cool logo and optimism count for something.

Rating

I'm actually just confused about how startups in this space keep getting funded. confounded even.

very skeptical about Poppin.

not a billion-dollar startup

<5% chance of success.

will eventually shut down.
