How Do I Get Promoted Without a Clear Career Path?
key Challenge is on more expanded role and responsibility
One of the routes to being promoted could be to go forward and discuss with the management what options are available, where and how much can i fit in and take the feedback to determine gap between as-is and to-be role and work on fixing the gaps.
Key criteria for promotion is :
how do you perform against the current role expectations: low / medium / high
how do we define future potential: low / medium / high ?
Next step is:
either continue as is
or determine targets (short and long term) and setup timelines to achieve those targets
Bottom-line:
Advocate for yourself instead of waiting for someone to advocate for you.
Position your self as a business where there is a need and a goal and perform gap analysis to determine how to move from as-is to to-be state.
If you are always taking tasks in your comfort zone, people will also always see that you are working well within your comfort zone.
