🌎 Overview

Lilypad is a serverless, distributed computing network providing internet-scale data processing for AI and other next-gen use cases. The Lilypad Network orchestrates distributed “edge” computing jobs that leverage Blockchain verification of completed work. GPUs across the globe are incentivized to join the network and participate in processing compute jobs for end users. The Lilypad economy is a job based system built to run as serverless processes. Users pay for what they use and nothing more.

The Lilypad IncentiveNet continues to grow rapidly, with over 840 Resource Providers (GPUs) joining the network! These nodes consist of GPUs ranging from Nvidia 3070s to A100s.

As the testnet grows, our assumptions are tested for the optimal conditions to run this economy and job model. Our team has continued to iterate on the current system based on learnings from the first stage of the IncentiveNet. Thank you to all Lilypad Resource Providers (RPs) for your commitment and feedback!

⚒️ Engineering Update

Update on the Lilypad IncentiveNet

As the IncentiveNet scales, our team continues to work tirelessly to support the demand! The docs for running a node continue to improve with feedback, and a troubleshooting page was created based on common questions. In addition, a Lilypad Windows Resource Provider guide was created to allow users to run a Lilypad node on a Windows computer.

The team continues to triage issues that surface regarding the Lilybit_ rewards system. Most of the initial issues have been resolved; however, our team has factored in existing support tickets as we optimize the Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism.

Action Required for Lilypad RPs- Ensure Bacalhau v1.3.2 is running

In the latest community announcement, we have asked all Lilypad RPs to ensure Bacalhau (v1.3.2) is running on their node. If Bacalhau is not running properly the node is at risk of not earning rewards. Follow this guide to change the Bacalhau version (if needed) as Lilypad currently only supports up to Bacalhau v1.3.2. We will ensure to keep the community updated using the updates-rp channel. Follow the channel to get notifications when a new announcement is made.

Running jobs on the network that only require a CPU continue to run smoothly. We have observed GPU job failures and have tasked a team to investigate. With all Resource Providers ensuring Bacalhau is running on their nodes, we anticipate more GPU jobs will run successfully.

Telemetry for observing the lifecycle of a job

The team has setup telemetry to gather more information from the network to help troubleshoot issues with running jobs and other RP questions that arise. Network monitoring has been setup to collect telemetry on the the state of the network.

An important goal of this telemetry work is to collect data on the full lifecycle of a job run by a Lilypad RP. When a job is submitted to the Lilypad Network, it is matched with a GPU that has the capacity to run the job. By collecting data about when the job is received (or not) and the job processing, our team can quickly identify where jobs are failing and how to address the issue.

🖥️ Tokenomics

Our team continues to work on the Lilypad Network Whitepaper, with a focus this week on Mainnet architecture. Our team is committed to ensuring a permissionless ecosystem of GPUs that is rewarded fairly and equitably. This work involves economic planning for the actor pricing model.

The Lilypad network consists of many actors with stakeholders (node providers and end users) interacting with these actors to form the Lilypad economy. CryptoEconLab, a group out of Protocol Labs with deep experience in launching networks of this scale, is guiding this economic planning with ways to approach this pricing and flow. The goal is to ensure a robust marketplace while preventing Sybil attacks and rewarding stakeholders fairly.

⚡ Developer Events & DX Updates

Open Source Contributions

Our team has been thrilled to accept pull requests on the main Lilypad repo as well as the awesome-lilypad repo! Thank you to our passionate community, your contributions are not going unnoticed.

The Lilypad network is an open source project that encourages the ecosystem to contribute. As more contributions roll in, the team is formalizing a contribution guide for the community to provide a smooth process for participation. This guide will be released soon with clear directions for submitting a PR to our Github repo, signed commits, and standard operating procedures to get a PR approved smoothly.

Weekly AMA Sessions!

The Lilypad team hosts an AMA every week to maintain consistent communication with the community. This week, Logan and I discussed the Lilypad Network in more detail and jumped into the work the team is currently focused on. Catch the latest AMA on youtube.

Every other week, we alternate the timing of the AMA to ensure we can cater to RPs and devs across the globe! Find an AMA time that works for you on the Lilypad Calendar.
