Getting Started in Web3bridge Africa
It’s been about 25 days, 18 hours, 59 minutes, and a few seconds since I received the email confirming my acceptance into the Web3bridge Cohort XI Onsite program. To say I’m excited and impressed would be an understatement. I truly love what Web3bridge is doing and am thrilled to be part of this vibrant ecosystem.
Here is a Little Recap of What I Have Learned So Far:
We’ve delved into blockchain technology, explored various types of blockchains, and gained an understanding of distributed ledger technology. We’ve also covered important blockchain concepts like cryptographic hash functions, Merkle trees, and Verkle trees, as well as the role of nodes in the network.
A highlight of our learning has been reading Mastering Ethereum: Building Smart Contracts and DApps by Andreas Antonopoulos and Gavin Wood. This book is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in Ethereum, building DApps, or exploring the decentralized web. It’s been a fascinating read, and I was especially interested in the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) topic.
What is the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)?
The EVM is like a global, decentralized cloud computer that powers the Ethereum protocol. Just as a physical computer runs software and stores data, the EVM executes code and manages memory, but it operates across a network of thousands of computers worldwide.
The EVM is a key component of the Ethereum blockchain, serving as the runtime environment for executing smart contracts and decentralized applications (DApps). It processes and executes code written in Ethereum’s native language, Solidity, or other compatible languages.
What’s Next?
As we move into the third week of our curriculum, I will learn about traditional and decentralized application development. We’ll explore development environments like Foundry and Hardhat, discuss development workflows, connect to test nets and cover Solidity fundamentals. I can’t wait to get started!
Well, That’s it for now. Let’s keep learning, discovering, and creating together. The blockchain revolution is just beginning, and we’re just getting started.
You can always learn more about Ethereum and the EVM.
