Brief overview of the Thinkpad X301

It's an ultraportable notebook computer built on the Intel Centrino 2 platform. Configured with an ultra low voltage Core 2 Duo SU9400 or SU9600 processor, WXGA+ (1440×900) LED backlight display, optical drive, integrated camera and multiple wireless options, the ThinkPad X301 provides an excellent balance of mobility, performance and connectivity.

  1. Design and Build Quality

    • The ThinkPad X301 is renowned for its exceptional build quality, characteristic of the ThinkPad line. The carbon-fiber reinforced plastic chassis provides a lightweight yet durable structure, weighing approximately 2.9 pounds (1.36 kg).

    • Display: The X301 features a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1440x900, providing sharp and clear visuals. The matte finish on the screen helps reduce glare, making it suitable for use in various lighting conditions.

2. Connectivity and Ports

  • The X301 is equipped with a range of ports for its time, including:

    • Three USB 2.0 ports

    • Ethernet port

    • VGA output

    • DisplayPort

    • Audio jacks (headphone/microphone)

    • 5-in-1 card reader

  • Wireless Connectivity: The laptop supports Wi-Fi (802.11n), Bluetooth, and optional WWAN (mobile broadband).

3. Keyboard and Input

  • Keyboard: The X301's keyboard is full-sized and spill-resistant, with the classic ThinkPad tactile feedback. The TrackPoint (red dot) is central to the keyboard, offering precise cursor control without needing an external mouse.

  • Touchpad: It also has a touchpad for those who prefer it over the TrackPoint.

4. Performance

  • CPU: It comes with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, designed for efficiency over raw power, which was sufficient for business tasks during its release.

  • Battery Life: The X301's battery life can range from 4 to 6 hours depending on usage, which was impressive at the time of its release.
