My first indie hacker project - Offroad Party Finder
Links
Intro
MudQuest - is the first real-time offroad party finder app that helps you locate offroad parties in your current or specified location. I’ve often found myself out in Moab with no phone reception and temperatures over 110°F, thinking how much better it would be to have a spotting buddy to pull me out of a ditch or deep sand. There have been times when I’ve thought, 'Nope, this is too risky for one rig to tackle alone.' This app is designed for people like me who want to find adventure buddies to go offroading with support each other, make new friends, and have fun.
In the overlanding or off-roading communities, you usually plan your adventures well in advance since they often last more than a day. You often need to be part of a club to join a community ride. The problem is that you can't always match your free time with the event schedule.
When all you need is someone to hit the trails with, and everyone else in the offroad town is ready to go, why can't we just connect and have fun together?
Let's see an example of how this can be done:
Use Case Example
Persona: Jack Doe - Occasional Overland Driver
Scenario: On his trip to Moab driving through many states. Trip duration 2 weeks. Stopping at multiple places on the way. Mostly campgrounds.
Experience: Beginner
When Jack arrives in Moab, he wants to find some fun company to explore easy trails in the area. He opens the MudQuest mobile application and creates a party search request. He provides basic information, such as the meet-up location, and the difficulty level of the trails, and selects the rig he is currently driving. Once the request is created, he is taken to the main Party view where he can see the status.
When the party request is created and marked as public, it becomes available in the party list for everyone in the area to see. It also sends notifications to others who are currently looking for a party or have notification alerts turned on.
At the same time, the party will be visible in two places: the map view and the party view list.
Jack is happy to have found two new friends, Alex and Sidney, who joined him on his adventure. Together, they took a nice drive up to the Tower Arch Trail in Arches National Park.
By the end of the party trip, all three party participants had their party tracked in their profiles. They also added each other as friends to see if they could take another trip together later.
Jack enjoyed this experience. He decided he would support this project and share it with others so this wonderful app could come to life. :)
Market Research
The market strategy now is to start reaching out to the Overlanding and Offroading communities. I believe it will be a great experience because the people there are easygoing and always supportive. I will continue posting updates on the progress. Currently, I am starting with my niche area - North Texas Overlanding groups. The next post will be about the research progress.
Thank you for your time.
