Byte'Sized Blogging Schedule.
Hello World....Again.
Abruptly taking a break from uploading right after starting the blog wasn't part of the plan.
However, the time off was necessary to focus on my job search and to give myself some breathing room between projects. I also needed to figure out if this was a side project I wanted to continue.
I'm back now but I wanted to explain the abrupt halt to writing.
Reset: What happened?
That may seem odd, but for the first part of my summer, I spent a lot of time on GitHub, uploading daily.
I ended up burning out after nearly two months of uploading because I couldn't balance my learning with proper self-care and downtime. I felt an overwhelming need to put in as many hours as possible to brush up on my coding and development skills. Everything became about upskilling entirely in a very short amount of time.
This led to losing enthusiasm for the blog and other projects over time, as it started as a side project to help with upskilling. I wasn't satisfied with the quality of the articles I was writing or the topics I had chosen. It felt like I was just rehashing articles I had already read, which further decreased my interest in completing anything new.
Finding topics for articles can't happen in isolation. Being in the middle of a job search while trying to upskill between interviews or for specific job requirements was too much to manage. Maintaining a weekly upload schedule and generating well-researched topics for the blog became overwhelming. I was also trying to network and attend job fairs, so writing had already taken a back seat to all of that.
So I did the only thing I could, I gave up.
I took a break and focused on gardening, visiting my local library, meeting friends in person, and most importantly, filling out job applications and preparing for interviews when needed.
Getting away from the computer and outside was the best thing I could do for myself in the end.
I basically gave myself the summer to fully settle into what I had to do for job-seeking by myself and it honestly did help me adjust how I was presenting myself for interviews, fix my CV and step out of my own headspace with others. I was able to enjoy what I was doing again.
But summers come to a end and I now need to reach a decision about the blog.
Re-calibration: Schedule moving forward.
I've decided I don't want to just abandon the blog.
I know I can't put the same time and energy into this blog, at least for now, as I can into job-seeking. Which I do need to prioritize above everything else for the time being.
I have decided to follow through with my original plan B, which was to upload monthly to the blog what I am learning or have learnt. As oppose to trying to upload every idea I have that pops into existence.
That is a guaranteed one article every month moving forward.
For now, articles will be released on the first Saturday of every month.
If this schedule changes, an update will be provided in advance or with the most recent article uploaded.
That doesn't mean additional articles in a month are out of the question. If I find a topic I'm passionate about, I'll aim to complete an article and upload it as soon as possible to the blog.
However, to avoid the overwhelm and burnout I experienced before, I believe a monthly schedule is the best way to continue with this blog, as I want to keep going this time with minimal interruptions to the schedule I have planned.
Next Upload
I am writing by myself , without a additional reader or editor to proof articles, so giving myself a month between uploads is needed to properly review the quality of the work uploaded and try and minimize any errors, as-well as properly fact-check information and provide the correct links to external sources where appropriate.
And even then, I've had to accept my writing is far from perfect on each article and this is still only a side project to my other commitments.
It is September however and I do have an article that is long overdue for a proper update already that has neared completion.
I'll be releasing the amendment to the article "Why I'm Learning...Godot", which was published unfinished in error at the very start of the summer.
