weekly post ~ aug 26th - sep 1st
This week’s project was still the Chemistry 2048 project. I was super productive and made a lot of progress. Even though I had a busy schedule, I had a ton of energy (probably thanks to my vitamins 💁♀️), but anyways Iet me tell you what got done!
First, I added the score functionality. Right now, the score goes up by numbers, but I’m debating if I want to keep it like that. It might make more sense for the score to show the highest element reached, since the goal is to complete levels with fewer moves. In this version of 2048, fewer moves means better strategy, so a lower score could actually be better. I’m still deciding whether to change this or just include a note in the "How to Play" section explaining that.
Next, I added the "Level Won" screen, which pops up when you reach the highest element for that level, letting you move on to the next one. I also fixed a bug with the "Game Over" screen, which turned out to be a quick fix—it just wasn’t enabled at the start of the game 🤦♀️.
I also introduced new difficulty levels: "Easy" with 5-6 elements, "Medium" with 7-8, and "Hard" with 9-10 elements. There’s also an infinity level where players can see how far they can go. Technically, the game can go up to element 118, but that’s pretty much impossible. In this mode, the higher the score, the better, but I’ll also track the highest element reached.
So far, I’ve added the infinity, easy, and medium levels. The hard levels are the last piece, and then the level creation will be done!
Looking ahead to this week, I’m planning to finish the element page (a periodic table where clicking on each element reveals fun facts), the "How to Play" screen, and add finishing touches like sound and UI.
That’s it for now, bye!!
