Terraform Vs Kubernetes - which one is for me (Day 1)

Today its my Week-1 of learning Terraform from scratch. Just for your heads up I have been using terraform in my job already for some time but all I knew was 3 commands that I would use in my day to day job.

1. terraform init

2. terraform plan

3. terraform apply

It took me some time to make up my mind and understand its high time now to know what goes behind all this, why is it required, what's the use case. Why should I learn it?

So the story goes like, I had my mid year 1 on 1 session where my Manager appreciated me for picking up lot of new tasks this year like being a SCRUM Master, picking Decommissioning work.
I got CSM Certified last year, there was a role of SCRUM MASTER in our team and i raised my hands up. Mind you this is over and above the work that I do apart from being a Sr. Devops Engineer in my team, it just spend about an hour from my 40 hrs and it gives me immense visibility and lets me have a say in my team as well.

During my 1 on 1, my manager suggested, "why don't you get your basics cleared on terraform! Go on, create some EC2 instances on Cloud, play around and you'll learn it".

And 2 weeks after our conversation, I decided to give it a go. I started scrolling through youtube videos with most views and best thumbnail.
Just for your information, I started with first search - Kubernetes Vs Terraform - which should I go for and after listening to few videos, finally i gave in for terraform since it was easier as well as Kubernetes is a subset of Terraform.

Hence it's better to start with T than K.

I found youtube channel freecodecamp.org and the video which caught my attention was Terraform Course - Automate your AWS cloud infrastructure.

With over 1.9 Million views in past 4 years, i was mesmerized with its detailing. I was looking for something which I could do step by step from installing the softwares to typing exact command. So if you are starting your journey this should be your goto Video.

My 2 month old new Lenovo 16gb RAM with nvidia GEFORCE RTX 4gb Graphix Laptop has a new use case- Install Terraform, Install Visual Studio Code and make yet another new AWS Free Tier Account.
