Sitecore XM Cloud: Setting default language for Sitecore Pages

Hi All,

While working on Sitecore Pages in Sitecore XM Cloud, we experienced a weird behavior. We were working on a non-English (it contains only a Dutch language version at present) website and what we noticed is, that every time we opened the Sitecore Pages application, it opened in the English language. Once opened, we could see all the items/pages but alas they were disabled and we could not edit or create new pages. What we had to do was to change the language to Dutch from the language selector and all the items were enabled and we could edit or create new pages.

Solution:

Even though this wasn't a blocker and we already knew how to get by, it started to become an annoyance and I decided to try and find a way to resolve this. Turns out, the solution was quite simple (it always is once you know the answer :D)

I opened the Content Editor and navigated to the Site item under Site Grouping (path: /sitecore/content/[TenantName]/[SiteName]/Settings/Site Grouping/[SiteName]). From the past Sitecore SXA experience, I know this is where all the settings for an SXA site are configured. And, I found that the Language field was set to "en" for this item. Once I changed the language here to Dutch (nl-NL), the Sitecore Pages started to load in the Dutch language by default.

Happy Sitecoring!
