How to Learn Like SHERLOCK
WHY YOU NEED TO LEARN BETTER
Learning is an important part of being a working professional; even if you are starting, learning is fundamental. So in this article, we will be discussing how to learn better. You will be able to learn better if you have a model for learning and if you have a process to turn something that you don’t know into something that you know. When I was a high school student I did not struggle to learn new information but I always had something in the back of my mind that there should be something that would allow me to learn better and faster and yes I have found that method that works wonders and I will be writing about that here. I guess this series will be a five-part series to cover every part of that process. To be frank the process requires a lot of processing and has a lot of elements to consider and this process just came out of my mind but it works great….
STEP 1: ASK YOURSELF WHAT THE HELL YOU JUST LEARNT
This part is really crucial after you have read something instead of hoping that it will just come to you naturally and you don’t need to do anything about that is a sign of foolishness and you better not carry that out again. Just start by asking yourself “WHAT IS IT THAT I JUST LEARNT?” and then you explain to yourself what you just learnt and you will be amazed to know how much you have missed and you have to be very honest with yourself while doing this and when you find the loopholes in your understanding you better refine them. This is a kind of iterative process but learning is an iterative process…
STEP 2: HOW DOES THIS WORK?
After you have explained to yourself what is that you are working on. It’s time to ask “HOW DOES THIS WORK?”. In this part, you will be explaining to yourself how a particular thing works. Here you will be zooming into the stuff and see each element of the whole system and ask yourself how a particular element of the system works and how this affects the whole system. You will be doing it for each and every element of the system and you can also apply the first step in order to know the element better. And then you try to see the relation of the element with the other elements of the system and try to form connections that you would not have formed otherwise.
STEP 3: WHY THIS WORKS?
Just like the first two steps can be applied to each and every element of the system and its individual element you can also apply this process to all of the aforementioned things. Here you ask yourself “WHY DOES THIS WORK?”. This is one of the most important parts of the process because here you try to see with the utmost clarity why a particular system works as it does and if you are zooming in you do it for each element of the system. This takes you to the level where you know a great amount of stuff about the things you are trying to learn.
FINAL WORDS
Everything I have described above is from my own experience and there are many things I would like to add over here and I will be adding them up in the upcoming articles. For that, you just follow me (BRO). I have a lot of things to add here and many things to share. Although starting this process might feel like energy consuming you will get habitual to it as time passes. The process looks like the circle of the book “START WITH WHY” by Simon Sinek we are just going from outside to inside . I will be adding more on top of it as it is just a part of a whole system of making things simpler and more memorable.
