Microsoft Purview Data Governance GA pricing
On September 1, 2024, Microsoft officially launched the general availability of its Purview Data Governance SaaS solution, designed to address modern data governance and security challenges with AI-powered capabilities. This unified solution simplifies the management and governance of data for organizations, offering a streamlined approach to secure and democratize data across the enterprise.
The new pricing model for Microsoft Purview Data Governance differs significantly from the previous Azure Purview model. With this update, there is no longer a cost for scanning data assets into the Data Map. However, charges now apply for 'Governed Assets' and 'Data Management' activities.
Starting November 1, 2024, Microsoft will roll out a new pricing model for its Purview Data Governance solution, ensuring transparency and flexibility while maintaining simplicity in cost management. The model revolves around two core components: Data Catalog and Data Management.
Data Catalog Pricing:
This feature helps data stewards and consumers manage and access governed data. The cost is based on the number of unique governed assets (e.g., tables, views, AI models) attached to data products, critical data elements, and future governance constructs*.*
A governed asset is any physical data asset that has been:
Added to Data Products in the new DG solution OR
Added to Critical Data Elements in the new DG solution
A governed asset is counted only once across all its references or associations across the product.
A governed asset counting will be done once per day.
Pricing is set at $0.0165 per asset per day (~$0.50 per month) for the US East region.
Data Management Pricing:
Customers are charged based on the Data Governance Processing Unit (DGPU), which tracks the performance of data health and quality management activities.
Pricing varies by SKU:

Basic - $15

Standard - $60

Advanced - $240

This pricing structure will be effective across various regions, with detailed updates available on the Microsoft Purview pricing page starting November 1, 2024.
Starting October 1, 2024, if you are already using new data governance experience in the Microsoft Purview portal, you'll receive a consent pop-up to accept/decline the terms and conditions of the new Microsoft Purview pay-as-you-go billing.
When the new data governance model takes effect on November 1, customers will no longer be charged for scanning data assets or using the Data Map. However, if customers use Self-Hosted Integration Runtime (SHIR) or Private Endpoints, they will still incur separate charges for those services, while scanning and Data Map usage will remain free of charge.
Cost reporting will be not be available to customers between September 1 and November 1.
