My First Day of Virtual Mentorship: A Journey of Growth and Gratitude

Yesterday began an incredible chapter in my coding journey—my first day of virtual mentorship. Our mentor, Nolwazi Mlonzi, guided us through the introductory session, outlining what we would be learning throughout this journey. Although it was just the first day, it was packed with insight and motivation. Nolwazi’s approach was patient, clear, and engaging. She didn’t want the session to feel like a formal class, and she encouraged us to interact freely, making the environment feel comfortable and inspiring.

As I sat there listening, absorbing the information, my sister whispered, “Do you realize that YOU made this happen?” It did not register for a moment, not quite grasping what she meant. Then, at the end of the session, Nolwazi echoed that same sentiment. It finally hit me—posting about my coding journey, my struggles, and my wins, had opened this door, not just for me but for other women on the same path. I never imagined that sharing my experience with learning JavaScript on SheCodes would connect me with others who felt the same way.

It all started with one simple post about how challenging JavaScript was. Soon after, other women began reaching out to share their struggles. That’s when the idea of creating a WhatsApp group came to life—so we could help each other grow. What began as a small support group has now attracted an expert who is genuinely invested in our growth. I truly believe that this was God’s work. I may have started the group, but He used me as a vessel to bring us all together.

On day one, there were 8 of us, and while it might seem small, I am confident this group will continue to grow. This mentorship has shown me how much potential we have to create something bigger and more impactful. I’m grateful for the women who have joined this journey, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us.

Thank you, Nolwazi, for your patience, and guidance, and for being such a motivating force. And thank you to everyone who has been a part of this beautiful, uplifting journey so far. This is only the beginning, and I know greater things are coming!
