Why Silicon Valley is Silicon Valley?
Whenever, we hear “Silicon Valley” Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook comes in our mind.
But have you ever thought why this place, which is in Northern California, became the center of technology globally?
In the early 1800s, San Francisco’s port helped make it a hub of the early telegraph and radio industries.
In 1909 San Jose became the home of one of the country’s first radio stations.
Silicon Valley was not always are hustling-bustling place, it was an agricultural area. Earlier it was known as Santa Clara
Fred Terman is known as the father of the Silicon Valley. He decided to attract more money from the Ministry of Defense and under his management Stanford started receiving more money.
Ministry of Defence is considered to be the first angel investor of Silicon Valley. There was not any name like Silicon Valley, back then place was called Santa Clara, but there were already some tech companies testing radios, different chips
He advised his students to not go anywhere after graduate, stay here in the Stanford and found your companies here.
The first students who listened to his advice David Packard, Bill Hewlett are the founders of well-known Company hp.
In the early 1940s, William Shockley co-invented the transistors wall at bell labs. The transistor is now known as the computer processor.
In 1956 he left bell labs and founded his own Company called Shockley Semiconductor labs, they were the first Company to make transistors on a Silicon not Germanium. He hired the students of Stanford University and named the group the Traitorous eight. They partnered with Fairchild Semiconductor, they made computer components for the Apollo program.
Later, many of the Traitorous eight left the Fairchild, including Gordon Moore and Robert notes, who founded their own Company in Santa Clara called Intel.
By the late 1970s and early 1980s, Silicon Valley was home to major companies that would shape the future of technology.
Apple, founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, revolutionized personal computing with the Macintosh.
Google, founded in 1998, became the world’s most popular search engine, and by the 2000s, companies like Facebook and Tesla were on the picture.
The development of the microchip transformed the economy of the entire area. What used to be the farmland has become a home of factories, research labs and startups.
One of the things that sets Silicon Valley apart from other tech hubs is its startup culture. People here come with very big ideas and if they don’t succeed there’s always another opportunity.
Today, Silicon Valley remains a hotspot for tech innovation, even as other cities worldwide, like Bangalore, Berlin, and Shenzhen, rise as tech hubs. What keeps Silicon Valley at the forefront is its ecosystem.
