Static and Dynamic contents

When internet era started, it were all static contents. Later dynamic contents evolved. At this point, remember, regardless of whether the content was static or dynamic, a web server was required to handle incoming requests from web browsers. The web server processes these requests and serves the appropriate content back to the client. web servers were essential for serving both static and dynamic content, and they laid the foundation for the web infrastructure we use today.

Web Servers

Some of the early web servers that existed before and during the rise of dynamic content include:

  • CERN httpd: One of the first web servers, it played a significant role in the early development of the World Wide Web.

  • NCSA HTTPd: Developed by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

  • Apache HTTP Server: Open-source and remains widely used today.

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS): Created by Microsoft.

  • Tomcat: Known primarily as a servlet container, Apache Tomcat also functions as a web server and was developed to support Java Servlets and JSP.

  • IBM WebSphere: A major web server and application server, it offers a strong platform for running Java EE applications and supports different web technologies.
