How To Make Linux Ubuntu look-like macOS

In today’s blog, we will learn how we can make our Linux Ubuntu look-like macOS.

These are the steps that we will need to follow:

  1. Open a new terminal. [Ctrl + Alt + t]

  2. Install following tool:

     sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions
    
  3. Enter your sudo password and press Enter.

  4. Next, update package manager list:

sudo apt update
  1. Install gnome-tweaks using the following command:
sudo apt install gnome-tweaks
  1. Download the macOS - Icons theme from the below link:
https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1334878
  1. Download the macOS - theme from the below link:
https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1403328
  1. Extract the downloaded macOS - theme and macOS - icons theme.

  2. Create a new directory named .icons inside your home directory and move all the extracted macOS icon theme files into the .icons directory.

  3. Create a new directory named .themes inside your home directory and move all the extracted macOS theme files into the .themes directory.

  4. Open Gnome Tweaks from your application menu (search for "Tweaks").

  5. Set Icon Theme:

    • In the Gnome Tweaks window, go to the "Appearance" tab.

    • Under the "Icons" section, click on the drop-down menu and select your newly downloaded icon theme.

  1. Set Application Theme:

    • In the "Appearance" tab, under the "Themes" section, you'll see options for "Applications" and "Shell."

    • For "Applications," choose your downloaded theme from the drop-down list to apply the theme to applications.

    • If the theme supports GNOME Shell, you can also apply it under the "Shell" section.

Once selected, your new icon and theme will be applied immediately. You can adjust other settings in Gnome Tweaks to customize your desktop experience further!

Change the Appearance settings and Dock position settings using the Default Settings App

Ubuntu comes with basic appearance settings that you can adjust from the Settings app.

Steps:

  1. Open the Settings App:

    • Click on the system menu in the top-right corner (where your battery, sound, and network icons are) and select "Settings" from the dropdown.
  2. Navigate to Appearance Settings:

    • In the left sidebar of the Settings window, click on "Appearance".
  3. Customize Appearance Settings:

    • Background: Change your desktop wallpaper by clicking on the image under "Background" and choosing a new image from the available options or by selecting a custom image from your files.

    • Style: You can switch between Light and Dark themes using the "Style" section.

    • Dock Settings: Customize the dock (the bar with app icons):

      • Auto-hide: Toggle the auto-hide function for the dock.

      • Icon Size: Adjust the size of the icons in the dock.

      • Position on Screen: Set the position of the dock (left, bottom, or right).

  4. Font Scaling:

    • Go to the "Accessibility" tab in Settings and adjust Text scaling if you want to increase or decrease the size of text on the desktop.
