My Journey with SheFi – Day 1

Hey everyone! 👋

Today marks the beginning of my exciting journey with SheFi, an amazing program where I’ll be learning all about blockchain, Web3, and decentralized technologies.

Taught by the incredible founder, @maggielove I’m already feeling inspired after my very first class.

In this blog, I want to share some of the key lessons I learned on Day 1, so you can come along for the ride with me as I dive deeper into this transformative space.

Blockchain

We kicked off the session by talking about blockchain, which is a core technology behind many of the new innovations happening in Web3.

So, what exactly is blockchain?

In simple terms, blockchain is a distributed ledger technology. Think of it like a giant notebook that everyone can see, but no one can tamper with. Every transaction or piece of data that gets added is stored in a secure and decentralized way, meaning no one person or organization controls it. This makes it trustworthy and highly resistant to fraud or manipulation.

Blockchain technology underpins many of the things you’ve probably heard about, like cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum) and NFTs (non-fungible tokens). One of the biggest advantages of blockchain is how it helps to keep records secure, transparent, and decentralized. That’s why it’s become such a game-changer in industries like finance, supply chain management, and even healthcare.

The Evolution of the Internet

The next big topic we covered was the evolution of the internet, from Web 1.0 to Web 3.0. Web 1.0 was the earliest version of the internet, where websites were mostly static and provided basic information. There was no interaction beyond reading content.

Then came Web 2.0, which introduced interactive features and social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, allowing users to create and share content more easily.

Now, we’re in the era of Web 3.0. What makes Web 3.0 so revolutionary is that it is all about decentralization. Unlike Web 2.0, where big companies own and control data, Web 3.0 allows users to have control over their own data and digital assets. Web 3.0 is powered by blockchain technology, and it’s paving the way for a more open, secure, and user-centric internet.

The Components of Web3

Web3 is made up of several key components, all tied together by blockchain technology. There are decentralized applications (dApps), which allow users to interact with each other without the need for middlemen (like banks or tech companies). Then there are tokens, which come in two main forms: fungible tokens (like cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which can be exchanged for one another) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are unique and can’t be swapped on a one-to-one basis, like digital artwork.

We also learned that blockchain is permissionless, meaning anyone can access it without needing to ask for permission. This openness makes it a transparent system that is resistant to censorship, providing a secure foundation for building trust.

Popular Blockchains

Some of the most well-known blockchains that we discussed include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Aave, polygon, USDC, Celo, Solana, and Avalanche. Each of these blockchains has its own strengths, whether it’s Ethereum being the go-to for smart contracts or Solana’s focus on speed and scalability.

Conclusion

This first session with SheFi has already expanded my understanding of blockchain and Web3. I’m excited to continue learning more about this space, especially as it’s so full of innovation and opportunity.

Whether you’re interested in cryptocurrencies, NFTs, or decentralized apps, there’s something for everyone in the Web3 world.

Stay tuned for more updates on my journey!

Happy web3ing :)
