Graduated! Congrats to Dunamis House!

Opening up today's LA Times, I was thrilled to see that a long-vacant property was officially re-occupied. I've been keeping an eye on this situation for a while, and I can't tell you how happy I am that 506 North Evergreen Avenue has graduated from the vacancy map.

Formerly the Evergreen Hostel, which helped Japanese Americans rebuild their lives after the war, the building was abated in 2018.

506 North Evergreen Avenue has been reborn as Dunamis House, which provides housing for 18-to-24-year-old students at risk of becoming homeless.

When I was an RA in college, there would always be students who left because of financial reasons (including my former roommate). These days, students of limited means are astronomically more likely to experience homelessness or housing insecurity.

A former hostel coming back from abatement and becoming housing for vulnerable young people? I love to see it. More of this, please.
