🦾 “We, Robot“ event: Tesla unveils its Robotaxi

Elon Musk unveiled the long-awaited Tesla Robotaxi. It is a futuristic two-door electric vehicle without a steering wheel and pedals. He has also announced a Robovan.

The details:

  • Elon Musk called the Robotaxi “Cybercap“. Tesla plans to start producing the vehicle in 2026.

  • Tesla expects the Robotaxi to cost less than $30,000 and have operating costs of 20 cents per mile.

  • Tesla's autonomous system relies on AI, cameras, and extensive training data without using lidar hardware preferred by competitors.

  • The self-driving Robovan should be able to transport up to 20 people.

Our thoughts

The event was very impressive. But now Tesla has to deliver.

If the costs for autonomous transport stay this low, Robotaxi and Robovan could transform the entire market. However, there are also competitors like Waymo from Alphabet, which are already a bit further ahead.

We think that Tesla's “AI + Camera” approach scales faster, and the costs are significantly lower than those of its competitors. In the end, Tesla could have an economic advantage that its competitors will not be able to catch up with so quickly.

Fun fact: The Tesla Optimus robots danced at the event and interacted with visitors. The robots were probably operated remotely.

🤖 OpenAI releases an experimental multi-agent framework

OpenAI has published a new open-source framework called “Swarm” on GitHub. According to OpenAI, it is an experimental tool for building, orchestrating, and deploying multi-agent systems.

The primary goal of the framework is to showcase the handoffs & routines patterns. You can learn more about it in the cookbook. Furthermore, the framework is not suitable for production environments and is primarily for educational purposes.

Our thoughts

Multi-agent frameworks have been around for a while. The Swarm Cookbook shows how to orchestrate multiple agents in a simple, powerful, and controllable way. Some examples are available in the GitHub repository. One thing is clear: the future belongs to multi-agent systems.
