Building Indie Apps: The plan
What’s This All About?
Hey there! I’m a full-time Software Engineer at a fin-tech company in the London and I’ve just decided to shake things up and start my own indie mobile app business. Why? Mainly, I wanted to work towards financial freedom and explore something new. I started this blog figuring it’s a good time to share what I’ve learned—both the wins and the flops.
I’ll also be upfront about my earnings to give you an idea of what’s working for me and what’s not.
Who’s This For?
Honestly, it’s for me. I’m writing this because it’s the kind of thing I wish I had when I first started. But if you’re someone thinking about getting into the indie app world, this might be helpful for you too! I’m still pretty early in the process—only two years in—but I want to track my progress, and who knows, maybe it’ll help others along the way.
What Can You Expect?
I’ll be posting updates about my apps and everything I’m learning as I go. Here’s the kind of stuff you can look forward to:
Monthly earnings breakdowns – I’ll share how much each app is making, what’s going well, and what’s not.
ASO (App Store Optimization) – I’ll talk about what’s been working for me in terms of visibility and downloads, and what’s totally bombed. And yes, I’ll throw in some graphs because data is fun!
A/B testing results – I’ll show you what I’ve tried to improve conversions, whether it worked or failed, and how I approached it.
Monetization strategies – I’ll dig into what’s better: paid apps or subscriptions, with real numbers to back it up.
Current projects – I’ll keep you posted on what I’m building right now and why I think it’s worth my time.
Why Am I Doing This?
In the past year, I’ve learned a ton—from people on social media (shoutout to X) and from trial and error.
If you’re up for experimenting and seeing what works (or doesn’t) in the indie app world, stick around! Let’s figure it out together. 🤘
