Hi everyone,

I've always been fascinated by AI and its potential to help create something remarkable, so taking the OCI Generative AI Certification (2024) from Oracle felt like a natural step in my learning. Particularly, with AI being the talk of the town lately.
This course helped me move beyond the buzz and truly understand how generative AI works.

The course was thoughtfully structured, starting with foundational topics that made complex AI concepts approachable, even for beginners like me.
The course covers essentials like LLM architecture, prompting, and training, with each module building on the last to provide a clear, step-by-step understanding. Below is how I took notes of each module.

The second module was a hands-on tutorial, that I found eye-opening, as it covered everything from how to use generative models to customising them with our own data. We jumped into live demos, explored prompt engineering, and even fine-tuned models for specific tasks. It was a real deep dive into how to leverage Oracle’s AI tools for real-world applications

The last module brought everything together by guiding us through building an LLM application using the OCI Generative AI service. We explored essential tools like vector databases, semantic search, and LangChain, which are foundational for creating an AI driven chatbot.

With hands-on practice in tracing, evaluating, and deploying the bot, it was amazing to see how these pieces fit into a real-world AI application. This practical experience gave me a solid grasp of using Oracle’s AI tools to create intelligent, responsive applications from start to finish. By the end of the course, I was able to successfully pass the exam to become an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2024 Generative AI Certified Professional.

This post is published on Joel Kallman Day, in honour of Joel Kallman. I hope to learn from the APEX community that he played such a big part of. I believe that sharing knowledge and supporting each other makes us all stronger and better, and I am looking forward to continuing to contribute to the wider Oracle developer community.
