User Behavior Insights (UBI) Spec 1.1.0 Notes

UBI is public specification for managing your event tracking data, with a strong focus on the needs of Search and AI teams. It provides a schema for managing your query and event data, and makes it simpler for teams to take advantage of the data you need. It’s a subset of the larger “User Behavior Analytics” field.

1.0.0 was released publicly back in June 2024, and it was just that, a 1.0. A MVP if you will. Since then, we’ve been working with the good folks building the AWS Personalize service, who are interested in consuming information about users using UBI. In working with their team, especially Shreya and Ankit, we found some gaps in the specifications, and asked them to provide some suggestions.

Going into 1.1.0 we knew we wanted to have more eyes on UBI, but definitely are not ready for a formal governance structure. We reached out to various folks in the community, and I’m glad to say we had feedback on the proposed changes from some new folks:

Here are a list of the changes to the specification made in 1.1.0: https://github.com/o19s/ubi/pulls?q=is%3Apr+milestone%3A1.1+is%3Aclosed

There is one last change that we decided to wait on till 1.2.0, pending more feedback (maybe from you dear reader!): https://github.com/o19s/ubi/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aopen+label%3ARFC
