In this article, I demonstrate generating Origami images using DALL-E.

Since I got my DALL·E 2 invite from OpenAI, I have been looking for ideas for prompts to try it out. So this Hacker News post caught my eye where the author tried generating origami images using Dall-e mini (the open source image generation AI tool)

Here is the link to the post:

I decided to try out the prompts from the post verbatim and see how it went. I am really impressed with the results. OpenAI DALL·E 2 is really impressive at what it does.

Without further ado, here are the prompts and images I generated using DALL·E 2:

Table of Contents

Origami images using DALL-E

DALL-E prompt: country house

First, let’s start with a plain country house

DALL-E prompt: country house styled as origami

In this prompt, we added “styled as origami” to the above prompt. You can compare two images to see the difference this brings to the generated images.

DALL-E prompt: modular origami polyhedron

Here we are experimenting with a complex shape.

Dall-e prompt: origami boat floating on water

Dall-e prompt: origami crane on a table

Dall-e prompt: origami crease pattern that uses box pleating

Dall-e prompt: origami diagrams for folding an elephant

Dall-e prompt: origami dragon

I have to say this one is my favorite from this set.

Dall-e prompt: origami tessellation based on hex grid

more complex shapes

Dall-e prompt: origami tessellation based on square grid

Summary – generating Origami images using DALL-E

If you compare the images between DALL-E 2 and DALL-E mini, the generated Origami images using DALL-E are much better.

If you have a DALL-E account, I suggest you try out these prompts and variations. I would love to hear back from you on what you get.
