My journey at TIIDELab has been transformative.

My journey at TIIDELab has been transformative. It has provided a deep dive into AI concepts and practical insights that are expanding my understanding of the tech industry. Reflecting on my first month, I am excited to share the valuable learning experiences that have already changed my approach to both the technical and non-technical aspects of AI.

Tokenization Class by Dillion

Our month started with a foundational session on tokenization, led by Dillion. Tokenization is a key process in natural language processing (NLP) that breaks down text into smaller parts to help models understand language. Dillion’s class made these complex ideas easy to grasp, emphasizing the importance of tokenization and laying a strong foundation for the advanced NLP techniques we will explore in the coming months.

Positioning for Emerging Tech Roles by Arome Ibrahim

One of the standout sessions this month was Arome Ibrahim’s lecture on entering emerging tech roles. His advice was practical and focused on positioning ourselves for success in this fast-changing field. Arome highlighted the importance of continuous learning, networking, and understanding industry demands. This session clarified how we can use our skills and market ourselves to make an impact in different tech areas.

Understanding Types of Fine-Tuning and Data Sources by Daniel

Daniel’s class on fine-tuning techniques and data sources offered insights into different methods of enhancing model performance. Though the class wasn’t technical, it provided a broader perspective on where and how data is sourced and the relevance of diverse fine-tuning approaches. Daniel’s explanations highlighted how both the quality and source of data influence the outcomes of machine learning models, equipping us with the knowledge to select appropriate data for different tasks.

Product Development and Customer Segmentation by Cynthia Shobayo

In her lecture on product development and customer segmentation, Cynthia Shobayo guided us through identifying target audiences and refining products to meet specific needs. Understanding customer segmentation was particularly valuable, as it’s crucial for developing AI products that solve real-world problems. After the class, we were divided into groups and tasked with brainstorming a product concept, using the lean canvas model to define it fully. Working through the lean canvas with my group helped us think strategically about key elements like our value proposition, target users, and potential challenges, which was a highly practical exercise in applying Cynthia’s teachings.

Feedback Loop Lecture by Femi

Mr Femi after the class

The in-person class with Femi on feedback loops was both insightful and practical. Femi emphasized how feedback is crucial for refining products, improving model accuracy, and enhancing user experience. He explained that creating an effective feedback loop requires ongoing evaluation and adaptation, which is vital for building AI systems that learn and improve over time. His session gave me a greater appreciation for feedback as a key element of growth and innovation.

Communication and Problem-Solving Skills by Toingrick Shamakee

Another impactful physical session was Toingrick Shamakee’s lecture on communication and problem-solving. Toingrick emphasized the value of clear communication in collaborative environments and introduced techniques for efficient problem-solving. His class taught us how to approach challenges analytically while also enhancing our interpersonal skills, which are vital for teamwork and success in tech roles.

Career Goal Setting by Emmanuel Ihim

The month concluded with Emmanuel Ihim’s class on career goal setting. Emmanuel provided a structured framework for defining and achieving professional goals, encouraging us to set realistic yet ambitious milestones. His insights on career planning were incredibly motivating, helping us align our skills and learning objectives with our future aspirations. I left the session feeling more prepared and focused on the path I want to take within the AI industry.

Reflecting on the First Month

My first month at TIIDELab has been an enriching blend of technical knowledge and professional development. Each instructor brought a unique perspective, making the learning experience holistic and applicable beyond the classroom. Working through practical exercises like defining a product on a lean canvas with my group has helped me see how theoretical concepts translate into real-world applications.

TIIDELab has already started shaping my journey in AI, equipping me not just with technical skills but also with the tools to navigate the industry. I look forward to the upcoming months and am excited to see how this journey unfolds.
