November Kickoff: Coding Tips, Startup Struggles, & Staying Focused

Hello, World!

Happy new month, everyone! November is here, and I hope you’re starting it with positive vibes and motivation. This past week has been packed with challenges. I’ve been working on my startup, Zawadi, iterating on ideas based on user feedback, and handling a demanding client (who taught me a lot about patience!). It’s been tough, but we’re moving forward, one step at a time.

What I’ve Been Up To

It’s been a busy time at Coding with Brian. I just posted a new tutorial that dives into a fresh programming language. Putting this video together was an adventure—I had to learn a lot on the fly. If you’re interested in seeing what I’ve been up to, check it out on my channel.

Tips for Staying Productive as a Coder

Whether you’re working on a personal project or managing a busy schedule, these tips have helped me boost productivity. Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Clean & Modular Code: Structure your code with functions and classes to keep it organized and easy to update.

  2. Automate Repetitive Work: Automate any repetitive tasks you have, like testing or deployment. Try Makefiles or Gulp to save time.

  3. Master Version Control: Git is a must! Frequent commits and clean commit messages will save you (and your team) a ton of time.

  4. Prioritize with Time Blocks: Set up focused time slots for coding, debugging, and meetings, and avoid multitasking to maintain flow.

  5. Take Breaks: Short breaks prevent burnout and help you stay sharp. Try a quick walk or stretch every hour.

Life as a Startup Founder

Starting Zawadi has been an adventure. We’ve gone through idea after idea, all based on what our users are asking for. It’s been a learning curve, but each challenge has shown me the importance of adapting and listening to feedback.

On top of that, self-care has been essential. I’ve noticed myself waking up tired, so I’m prioritizing breaks and proper sleep—pro tips for anyone in a demanding field like tech.

Final Thoughts

Remember, tech journeys aren’t always smooth, but persistence is key. No matter the setbacks, stay focused and keep learning. As Vusi Thembekwayo often says, “Don’t be distracted.” November is here—let’s make it a great one!
