Manpo-Kei
Hey everyone! 👋
So, I had this goal to walk 10,000 steps a day. Back when I was in college or commuting to the office, getting in steps was easy – I’d walk around campus, head to classes, or even stroll to grab lunch with friends. I never had to think about hitting my steps because I was always on the go. But now, working from home, things have totally changed. I spend hours sitting in front of my computer, and it’s way too easy to get stuck in one spot all day.
pov: you’re working from home 😅
When you’re at home, everything is close by – kitchen, bathroom, even your bed! So, you don’t really have to move around much to get things done. Also, since it’s getting colder (hello, November!), I’m less motivated to go outside. I’ll admit, I’ve been slacking off a bit on my 10,000 steps goal.
But I really want to change that! So, for November, I’m setting my goal to reach 10,000 steps every day 💪🏻.
Did you know Manpo-Kei?
Back in the 1960s, a Japanese company called Yamasa Clock invented a pedometer called the "Manpo-kei," which means “10,000 steps meter.” They marketed it with the idea that walking 10,000 steps a day would help people stay healthy and fit. Dr. Yoshiro Hatano, a Japanese researcher, even supported the idea, saying 10,000 steps a day would burn enough calories to keep people in shape.
Since then, 10,000 steps has become a popular fitness target around the world, especially with all the fitness trackers and smartwatches available now. It’s a big, round number that feels like a meaningful goal – and even if you don’t hit it exactly, aiming high keeps you moving.
So, here’s to hitting 10,000 steps every day in November. Let’s do this! 💪🏻
