Building a Bridge Between ADPList and Senja
As a mentor on ADPList since December 2023, I've had the privilege of guiding individuals through their QA and job hunting journeys.
Fast forward to November 2024, and I've racked up 40 calls, over 2,000 mentoring minutes, and have assisted people from more than 10 countries. Alongside this, I've received 18 glowing reviews from my mentees.
But my journey didn't stop there. I was also focused on building my brand, learning the ropes of content creation, product development, and sales funnels on Money Twitter.
The goal? To monetize my knowledge by crafting valuable content and products for my audience.
The Power of Testimonials
During this time, I noticed how entrepreneurs were leveraging testimonials using tools like Senja. This platform allows you to collect text or video testimonials, customize their appearance, and title them to your liking. It gives you creative control over how you present your social proof, which is incredibly powerful for crafting compelling sales pages.
The Challenge with ADPList Reviews
ADPList does offer a review function, and as I mentioned, I've accumulated 18 reviews. However, I found it challenging to use this social proof as effectively as Senja allows. ADPList's reviews lack customization options—you can't change their design or title them, limiting how you can share them with your audience.
Bridging the Gap
I wanted to bridge the gap between these two platforms. I needed a way to export my ADPList reviews to Senja without asking my mentees for another review, which could potentially be less favorable due to the passage of time. My solution? To build an app that integrated Senja and ADPList.
The Technical Journey
I reached out to the founder of ADPList to inquire about an API for fetching review data. While there wasn't an open, documented API, I didn't let that stop me.
Using Chrome DevTools, I inspected the network tab and found the JSON payload with all my review data. I then matched up the fields from ADPList reviews with Senja's API requirements for creating testimonials.
The Birth of Mentor Proof
After some development and testing with tools like Insomnia, I created a one-page app called Mentor Proof.
This app took a user ID and Senja API key, fetches the review data from ADPList, maps the fields to Senja's format, and sends the testimonials to Senja's API.
The result? My ADPList reviews were successfully converted into Senja testimonials.
Making It User-Friendly
The founder of ADPList suggested making the app more accessible by allowing users to input their mentor profile URL instead of their user ID.
After some more digging, I found a way to extract the user ID from the mentor profile URL using the API. This tweak made the app even easier for the average user to leverage.
The Future of Mentor Proof
I made this tool to solve my own problem, but I believe it empowers ADPList mentors to transition from free mentoring into paid coaching or consulting roles while bringing their social proof with them.
My long-term vision is to potentially cover the cost of the Senja API key, allowing users to port their social proof for free or a small fee.
