The Power of Psychology in Sales: 10 Hacks (Part 2)

Hey there, welcome back! 👋 If you tried out the first five sales psychology hacks, I hope you’ve already seen some magic in action.✨ Now it’s time for Part 2! Today, I’m sharing five more hacks that go deep into how people think - perfect for adding that extra edge to your sales game.

So, pour yourself a cozy coffee ☕, get comfortable, and let’s dive right into the good stuff! Ready to uncover some clever new tricks? Let’s go! 🤩

6. Scarcity 🚨⏳

This one’s a classic! When something seems rare or limited, we want it even more. It’s that famous FOMO feeling! Ever seen those “Limited stocks available” or “Only 3 items left!” banners? They make us feel like we’re about to miss out, which pushes us to act faster. 🚀

Example: You’re eyeing a plane ticket, and suddenly, there’s a message: “Only 2 seats left at this price!” You feel that urge to grab it right away because it might disappear! So in sales, adding phrases like “Hurry! Last few pieces left!” or “Only for today!” can encourage customers to hit “Buy” a lot quicker. 🛒🔥

7. Loss Aversion 😱💔

Loss aversion means that losing something feels way worse than gaining something good. We naturally want to avoid loss more than we want to seek rewards. Imagine how disappointed you’d feel if you missed out on a great discount just by a few hours, right? 😩

Example: A lot of software sites use this by showing, “You can save 20% if you switch to our yearly plan!” You’re more likely to go for it because you don’t want to lose that extra savings. Or imagine a sales message saying, “If you don’t buy now, you could miss out on saving Rs. 200!” People respond to these reminders of potential losses because they’d rather avoid the pain of missing out. Use this by framing offers around what customers could lose by not acting fast! 💸✨

8. Anchoring ⚓💵

Anchoring is all about setting up a price that makes other options look like a deal! When we see a high price first, it “anchors” our mind, making other prices seem lower by comparison.

Example: Think about ordering popcorn at the movies. You see three options: small for Rs. 80, medium for Rs. 100, and large for Rs. 110. Suddenly, the Rs. 110 option looks like a bargain compared to the small one at Rs. 80 — you’re getting way more for just a bit extra! 🍿 This “anchor” price at Rs. 80 nudges people towards the largest option, and the highest price now feels like the best value. Try this by setting up a few pricing tiers to guide your customers to your most valuable package! 💪

9. The Decoy Effect 🪄🧐

The Decoy Effect is all about creating a third option that helps people decide when they’re torn between two choices. Let’s say you’re at the movies and see just two popcorn sizes: small for Rs. 80 and large for Rs. 110. Hard choice, right? 🤔 But if there’s a middle-sized option for Rs. 100, it suddenly becomes clear! Now, that Rs. 110 option looks like the best deal because you’re getting more for just Rs. 10 extra.

Example: The Decoy Effect is everywhere! Think about car models, subscription plans, or mobile storage options. You’ll usually see three options (never just two) — like basic, pro, and premium plans. That middle “decoy” makes the largest plan look even better! Use this technique in sales to guide customers toward your best-value option by making it the clear winner among three choices! 🏆🚗

10. The Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon (aka Frequency Illusion) 🚗✨

Ever decided on a certain car model and then suddenly, it’s everywhere? That’s the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon! Once we start thinking about something, we tend to see it more often, which makes us feel like it’s popular or common.

Example: Brands use this a lot by retargeting ads. Once you’ve looked at a product online, you’ll start seeing it on Facebook, Instagram, and Google. After a while, you feel like everyone is using that product, which makes it feel like a popular, smart choice. So, if you want customers to see you as “everywhere,” retargeting and frequent brand visibility is the way to go! 📲🔥
