The Impact of Punjabi Pop Music on Young Minds
Hello readers, welcome to my blog! My name is Dev, and today I want to talk about how Punjabi pop music is influencing society, especially the younger generation.
In today’s busy world, entertainment is something we all enjoy. It gives us a break from work and daily responsibilities. While entertainment is fun, its impact on our thoughts and behavior, especially on young people, is worth thinking about.
My Journey and Realizations
I grew up in Punjab, surrounded by music and culture. Like many others, I dreamed of having a luxurious life—big houses, fancy cars, and expensive gadgets. But as I grew older, I began to ask myself: Why do we chase things we don’t need? Is it just to show off or fit in?
Earlier, people didn’t focus so much on material things. But now, with the rise of Punjabi pop music, many youngsters are influenced by songs that showcase flashy lifestyles, often creating unrealistic expectations.
How Punjabi Music Shapes Our Thinking
If you listen to popular Punjabi songs today, you’ll notice a few common themes:
Expensive cars and luxury items.
Objectification of women.
Glorification of violence and gun culture.
It’s rare to hear songs with meaningful lyrics or calming tunes. As someone who loves music, I feel sad to see how most songs focus on materialism instead of spreading positive messages.
Thankfully, there are some singers like Ranjit Bawa, Tarsem Jassar, Satinder Sartaaj, and Ammy Virk who create songs with meaning and depth. But the majority of artists prioritize fame and money over quality content.
The Impact on Youth
The younger generation is heavily influenced by these songs. They create reels, share videos, and try to live the lifestyle shown in music videos. Many end up spending money on things they don’t need—sometimes even taking loans—just to feel “cool” or fit in.
Young girls also feel the pressure to follow fashion trends seen in these videos, trying to match a modern image. While self-expression is important, this can lead to unnecessary stress and insecurities.
Who Is Responsible?
Interestingly, some Punjabi singers themselves have admitted to this problem. Maninder Buttar, a well-known artist, once shared that they create such songs because that’s what the audience wants. If people demanded meaningful music, artists would gladly make it.
For example, vehicles like the Mahindra Thar became popular partly because they were featured in music videos. This shows how much influence the entertainment industry has on trends.
Finding Balance
The problem is not with music itself. Music is a beautiful way to express emotions and connect with others. But as listeners, we must be aware of its impact. Instead of blindly following what we see, we should enjoy music with a balanced perspective.
Not every trend is worth following. It’s important to focus on what truly makes us happy and adds value to our lives.
Final Thoughts
The Punjabi entertainment industry plays a big role in shaping culture. While it brings energy and fun, it also creates challenges by promoting unhealthy ideas. As listeners, we have the power to bring change. By supporting meaningful content, we can inspire artists to create songs that uplift and motivate us.
Let’s hope for a future where music spreads positivity and helps us grow, both individually and as a society.
