Photos from Alameda – The West End

My new neighborhood in Alameda’s West End has a beautiful variety of waterfront trails and walkable streets with old Victorian-era houses. Just over a mile away is the USS Hornet, a long-retired aircraft carrier, perfectly positioned with the San Francisco skyline as a backdrop.

Alameda is mainly known for its Victorian and Neo-Classical revival architecture. Even though I grew up around a different style of architecture, living here now feels very cozy and familiar.

Living a stones-throw from the water, on the island, there is so many protected spots to walk for a morning coffee or evening … - whatever you might do in the evening.

Where I work now, I can see the USS Hornet from the front door with retired FM-2 Wildcat jets atop it, which is an amazing sight. Retired in the '70s, the ship's past claim to fame was retrieving the capsules from the Apollo 11 and 12 missions in the Pacific Ocean.

Its current claim to fame is hosting raves. I still want to see if I can make it to the next one. If you want to see what it's like, RL Grime performed there in July.
