CM Yogi Launches UP's First Double-Decker Electric Bus in Lucknow, Announces Special Discounts for Women

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated Uttar Pradesh's first double-decker electric bus during the Aakanksha Haat program at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on Saturday. The initiative aims to provide an eco-friendly public transport option that can alleviate traffic congestion and contribute to environmental conservation in urban areas.

In a significant move to support women passengers, CM Yogi announced a 50% discount on tickets for women traveling in the double-decker electric bus. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Additionally, women can avail free travel on the heritage route during the morning trips every Saturday.

At the inauguration of the electric double-decker bus in Lucknow, CM Yogi Adityanath highlighted the role of public transport in shaping India’s identity, stating, “With a population of 25 crore, the state of our public transport reflects our society and identity.” Mr. Prakash Hinduja of the Hinduja Group, Europe, recalled how the Chief Minister spoke highly of the group’s efforts, adding, “We’re proud to contribute to a greener, cleaner future for Uttar Pradesh.”

The transport department shared that the double-decker bus would be used for heritage tours in the morning and general passenger services in the evening, initially operating between Kamta Crossing and the airport via Shaheed Path. The bus has a seating capacity of 65 passengers and offers a 10% discount for digital payments.

For enhanced safety, the bus is equipped with five CCTV cameras, a panic button, and an electronic tracking device for real-time location updates.

The CM also highlighted ongoing government efforts to promote local arts and handicrafts, providing new platforms and employment opportunities for artisans across Uttar Pradesh.
