Whether you’re using a fancy interface (the UI), typing commands (CLI), or automating everything like a wizard (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK), this lesson is packed with everything you need to know. Let’s break it down so it’s easy to understand, and you’ll remember it for the long haul!
What is AWS UI?
Imagine you’re playing a video game and have a big screen with buttons you can click to make things happen. AWS UI (User Interface) is just like that—it's the graphic dashboard where you can see everything happening in your AWS cloud environment. It’s like a control center for all your cloud resources.
Example:
Think of the AWS UI as a Google Home screen—you see your cloud resources like EC2 instances, S3 buckets, and databases, and you can click on them to control them, just like pressing an app on your phone!
What is AWS CLI (Command Line Interface)?
Now, imagine you have a magic wand, and instead of clicking buttons, you type out commands to make things happen. That’s what AWS CLI (Command Line Interface) does. It’s like having the superpower to control AWS with your keyboard!
Why should you care about the CLI?
Speed: Type a command, and things happen fast! No waiting for the page to load.
Automation: You can create scripts that repeat tasks automatically, saving you tons of time.
Power: The CLI gives you access to every corner of AWS, even the hidden ones!
Example:
You know how your smartphone can do almost anything when you touch the screen? The CLI does the same, but instead of touching, you’re typing to get your cloud resources working!
AWS API – What Is It and How Does It Work?
Think of AWS APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) as secret passages that let different tools and services talk to each other. It's like when you use an app, and it connects to your phone’s camera or GPS—APIs let different systems communicate seamlessly.
AWS provides tools like:
CLI: The tool you type commands into.
Terraform: A tool that lets you define your cloud resources like a blueprint, which you can then use to create and manage them.
CloudFormation: Similar to Terraform, but AWS-specific—like Terraform's cousin.
CDK (Cloud Development Kit): A developer-friendly framework that lets you define cloud resources using code!
How Are API, CLI, and Other Tools Connected?

CDK: A chef who writes recipes in code. If you love coding and want to make your recipes easily repeatable and sharable, CDK is your best friend.
Each tool has its own strengths, and as a DevOps engineer, it’s crucial to know when to use each one, like choosing the right tool in your toolbox!
Installation: Getting Started with AWS CLI (Windows)
To start using the AWS CLI on Windows, follow these steps:
Step 1: Download and Install AWS CLI
Go to the AWS CLI download page and download the latest version of the AWS CLI for Windows.
Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Step 2: Configure AWS CLI
After installation, open the Command Prompt and configure the AWS CLI by entering the following command:
$ aws configure
It will prompt you for the following information:
AWS Access Key ID
