A New Chapter Rooted in Openness and Gratitude

Hey! It’s Outreachy O’clock. How did we get here? 🤗🤭
It was an interesting journey, from being clueless to becoming an intern with ODK-X in the Outreachy Winter 2024 internships.

Hi! I’m Bukunmi Ola, a mobile app developer, and a fashion creative hobbyist. Armed with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science, I have learned the art of being focused and resilient. I also geek out a lot about my discoveries, so I’m always open to learning.

My Outreachy Journey:

In 2021, I read about Outreachy from one of the communities I belong to, and I registered, I guess my university calendar at the time didn’t make room for that, so, I didn’t go past the initial application stage. I did join the mailing list though.
In 2022, I predicted the same thing was going to happen, so, I wasn’t so enthusiastic about it. In 2023, I missed the whole process, ahahah😂.
Here comes 2024! I saw the application mail, and didn’t want to apply but, I did share it with some friends and later decided to apply. Getting into the contribution phase was surreal. I was out of town, and couldn’t get started until a week later. However, I did take my time to read well about all the projects before picking ODK-X (which best resonates with my next line of learning).
Collaborating and contributing was a really interesting adventure. I was new to open source and writing tests. But, I had a great time, the community members and mentors were awesome.
Come 28th of November, 2024. I got the best news of the month. Yay🥳💃🏽🎉

My Response:

I am excited to embark on this incredible journey. For me, this opportunity is more than just a new chapter, it’s a testament to the values that guide my life: excellence, sincerity, and openness.

Excellence is something I strive for in everything I do. Whether it’s tackling challenges or diving into new learning experiences, I believe in giving my best to achieve meaningful outcomes.

Sincerity is at the core of my interactions. I always aim to bring authenticity and warmth to every connection I make, building trust and fostering collaboration.

Openness is another value I hold dear. I approach every experience with a mindset to learn, grow, and share. Being open to new perspectives and ideas has always helped me evolve both personally and professionally.

My journey so far has been deeply rooted in faith. I firmly believe that it’s by the grace of God that I’ve dared to push forward and reach this point. This sense of gratitude keeps me motivated and reminds me of the importance of hard work, humility, and purpose.

I am so excited to contribute my energy, ideas, and enthusiasm to the ODK-X team.
