TCS NQT 2024 Experience: Insights and Lessons

Hi, readers! So, I am glad to share to you my first blog. My name is Satvik Sharma, and I’m extremely excited to share my journey of preparing for and giving the TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT) that occurred on 21st December 2024. As a fresher who was scared about actually getting into the IT field, the TCS NQT was a huge milestone. In my journey, TCS NQT is a fantastic opportunity to showcase my skills.
What is TCS NQT?
TCS NQT is the entry-level examination by Tata Consultancy Services to hire freshers for various roles. It assesses aspirants on areas like Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability and coding and programming efficiency for IT jobs. Qualification of this test paves the way for exciting opportunities in one of the premier IT companies around the globe.

Preparation Journey & Mistakes
I started my preparation a month before the exam, but I had no idea where to study, where to practice, or what types of questions would be asked. Fortunately, I remembered that the TCS NQT IT Pack I had bought from TCS NQT included a course, so I decided to start preparing from there. However, after just five days, things became hard to grasp. Managing my time was also a challenge since I had to learn plenty of things daily, like DSA and Web Development. To make matters worse, the video lectures were not easily understandable.
Feeling overwhelmed, I stopped learning from that course and turned to YouTube. I found countless lectures, but I didn’t know whom to trust as everyone seemed to be selling their materials. I became hopeless and decided to take a break from my NQT preparation. What I didn’t realize was that this break would stretch until just seven days before the exam.
At that point, I decided to stop my other learning—DSA and Web Development—and focus entirely on NQT. I surfed the internet for the best resources and discovered Knowledge Gate by Yash Sir. He turned out to be a fantastic teacher and a true lifesaver. I prepared using his one-shot video, which was around 16 hours long. That single video taught me a lot of tricks, formulas, and concepts.
Also one day, During one random scroll on the Instagram Reel, I also stumbled upon a mind-blowing website that helped me perform smart work for the rest of the preparation period. That website name is https://talentbattle.in/. You can check this [Not sponsored :) ]. From my perspective, you can learn so many things in just no time. Also, apart from TCS, you’ll get FAQs of famous Companies like Microsoft, Google, Accenture, Netflix etc.
A Final Preparation
One day before the exam, I had almost finished the previous year’s questions (PYQs) for all three subjects: Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Logical Reasoning (MA), and Verbal Ability (VA). On 20th December, the day before the exam, I solved a mock test. While solving, I realized that I had forgotten many concepts due to rushed studies. However, instead of panicking, I referred to my notebook, reviewed the formulas and tricks, and redid the questions. This approach took time and affected my ability to stick to time limits, but it also helped me revise concepts and face new problems.
Time management is crucial in TCS NQT, and although I tried practicing it, I couldn’t fully manage due to the limited time left before the exam. After revising, I wound down and prepared myself mentally for the big day.
The Battle Day ~ 21st December 2024
On exam day, I was nervous but determined. The first question was from Ratio and Proportion, and it was very easy to solve. I completed it within 25 seconds, which boosted my confidence as I had solved a similar question the day before.
Here’s how I performed:
Quantitative Aptitude: Attempted 16 questions, and the rest were guesses because of time issue.
Logical Reasoning: Attempted 18 questions, and the rest were guesses.
Verbal Ability: Attempted 18+ questions, and the rest were guesses.
Although I was nervous, solving the first question quickly and correctly gave me the confidence to keep going. The rest of the exam felt manageable despite the time constraints.
Questions Pattern (Maybe you’re waiting for this):
Quantitative Aptitude: I got to saw that this exam focused on Ratio and Proportion, Profit and Loss, Percentage in foundation section and LCM & HCF, Data Interpretation and Number System
Logical Reasoning: The questions were asked is from Data Sufficiency on Train Problems, and Time and Work, Statement Assumption, Syllogism, and Diagrams/Spatial Reasoning
Verbal Ability: Mainly Focused on the Fill In the Blanks of valid phrases or words, reading comprehension, error spotting.
Advance Coding: They asked two questions. First one is totally based on array and logics. Second question was based on Stacks.
Key Takeaways
Start Early and Stay Consistent: Don’t rely on the last-minute rush.
Use Trusted Resources: Knowledge Gate by Yash Sir was a game-changer for me.
Do Revision: Revision is must after learning to remember something for a long time period.
Practice PYQs and Mock Tests: They help you understand the pattern and difficulty level.
Focus on Time Management: It’s one of the most critical aspects of TCS NQT.
Stay Calm and Confident: Panic only wastes valuable time and energy.
Conclusion
Appearing for TCS NQT was a roller-coaster of emotions, but it was an enriching experience 🌟. The preparation taught me valuable lessons about discipline 📚, resourcefulness 🛠️, and perseverance 💪. I hope my journey inspires future aspirants to prepare better and achieve success in this competitive exam 🏆.
Best of luck to all future candidates! 🍀✨
