How Fortnite taught me JavaScript

You might have come here because of Fortnite. While the game didn't directly boost my JavaScript skills, it did teach me something valuable. Battle royale games show you that reaching your goals takes effort and persistence. No matter how many times you fall, it's important to get back up and keep going.

This post is not about Fortnite though, it’s about Javascript. So, if you are still reading, I’ll roughly document my journey of learning JS below:

  • Diversify your study methods; don't rely solely on websites or courses.

  • Read books by professionals (e.g., Eloquent JavaScript) instead of random PDFs found online.

  • Listen to podcasts like syntax.fm; they can be incredibly helpful.

  • Practice writing code by hand, as you did in school. This method aids memory retention and enhances learning by slowing down the process.

  • Focus on exercises and thoroughly understand the fundamentals. Use AI tools to clarify concepts you find challenging.

  • Find a mentor to assess your progress regularly and provide guidance. A clear path prevents wasting time on unnecessary topics.

  • Consider investing in a high-quality course. While optional, a well-structured course can serve as the mentor you never had.

I know this isn't a post about diving into Arrays or deciding when to use const and let. It's more about finding a sustainable and consistent approach to learning. Once you get started, the key is to keep going and not stop.

To wrap up, remember that learning JavaScript is a journey filled with opportunities for growth and discovery. Stay curious, keep experimenting, and enjoy the process of becoming a more skilled developer.
