Thnks fr th Memes

Even though they weren't so great.

Yes, I too, have decided to deactivate my Meta accounts. And it's kinda a big deal. I'm proud to be a Millennial, a social-media pioneer, and an early Twitter user (back when there was a 140-character limit). Not once, not ever, have I willingly removed a social media account. In fact, I kinda collect them like Pokémon.

But I'm older now. Wiser. I know what a "Daily Active User" means to an investor. I no longer feel comfortable knowing that my scrolls and clicks support Zuckerberg, who recently announced that Meta would no longer employ fact-checkers. Whether you believe platforms like Facebook or Instagram should be moderated doesn't concern me, but the use of unpaid labor does. It's not my job to read and understand Meta's content policy. I don't have time to argue for morals in the comments so Zuck' can turn to investors and tout increased engagement. All so that he can then take that money and use it against the very people I'd be arguing for.

To those of you who use Instagram or Facebook for your business, I support your hustle. For me, however, it no longer makes sense. All I was doing was sharing memes with the same three people, posting a couple of pictures to prove I was alive, and doom-scrolling for hours.

The good news is, I can do most of that on BlueSky (tastes like you, but sweeter 🤣). So, if you care to share a funny clip, that's where you'll find me. My username is @XianHain.com.
