How to Install and Run DeepSeek-R1 on Your PC Using LM Studio


Step 1: Install LM Studio
LM Studio handles model compatibility and hardware optimization, making it perfect for beginners.
Visit the LM Studio website and download the version for your OS.
Install the app—it’s as easy as installing any other desktop software
Step 2: Search and Download DeepSeek-R1 Directly in LM Studio
LM Studio’s built-in model browser lets you download GGUF-format models (optimized for local use) without leaving the app:
Open LM Studio and click the magnifying glass icon (Search) on the left sidebar.
In the search bar, type “deepseek-r1” and press Enter.
Browse the results for versions uploaded by trusted contributors like TheBloke, who often quantize models for efficiency.

Click the Download button next to your preferred model.

Go to the Search Bar (Local Models) on the top middle navbar.
Find the downloaded
deepseek-r1
model in the list and click it to load.LM Studio will automatically configure settings for your hardware (CPU/GPU).
Step 4: Start Chatting with DeepSeek-R1
Click the chat icon on the left sidebar to open the chat interface.
Ensure the loaded model (DeepSeek-R1) is selected in the top dropdown menu.
Type your prompt and press Enter to generate responses!
