Apple is reportedly delving into the development of both humanoid and non-humanoid robots, aiming to enhance its smart home ecosystem. According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the company is in the early proof-of-concept (POC) stage, with mass production unlikely before 2028.

Kuo emphasizes that Apple prioritizes the cognitive interaction between users and robots over their physical appearance. This approach aligns with a recent research paper from Apple’s AI team, which introduced an interactive smart lamp robot. Resembling Pixar’s Luxo Jr., this device features articulating arms, LED lights, cameras, speakers, and projectors. It responds to gestures and voice commands, showcasing human-like traits such as dancing and expressing faux sadness.

While the industry debates the merits of humanoid versus non-humanoid designs, Apple’s focus appears to be on creating robots that foster meaningful user interactions. The company’s cautious approach suggests that these projects may evolve over time, potentially leading to innovative additions to the smart home market.
