Field Visit to Shivli Village: Spreading Awareness on Menopause

Introduction
Menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life, yet awareness about it remains limited, especially in rural areas. To bridge this gap, our group conducted a field visit to Shivli village with the aim of educating women about menopause and its effects. The visit focused on spreading awareness, addressing common concerns, and collecting information through offline interactions.
Description of the Visit
On 26th January, our team visited Shivli village and engaged with women directly by going door-to-door. We personally interacted with them in their homes, discussing menopause, its symptoms, impact on health, and the importance of proper care during this stage of life. Each conversation was tailored to the individual’s concerns, ensuring that every woman received clear and relevant information.
During these visits, we also collected forms to gather insights into their awareness levels, common concerns, and the support they receive from their families and community. The offline mode of data collection helped us reach a broader audience, ensuring inclusivity for those who may not have access to digital resources.
Additionally, as our visit coincided with Republic Day, we attended the village’s Republic Day program and were felicitated by the village community in recognition of our efforts. This honor reinforced the importance of our initiative and encouraged us to continue our work in spreading health awareness.
Key Observations & Responses
The responses from the women were insightful and eye-opening. Many of them were unaware of the biological and emotional changes that come with menopause and had misconceptions regarding its effects. Some women associated it solely with aging, while others believed that medical attention was unnecessary.
A recurring concern was the lack of discussion about menopause within families. Many women expressed that they felt hesitant to talk about their symptoms or seek help. Our team emphasized the importance of open conversations and medical consultations to manage menopause effectively.
Impact & Learning Outcomes
The awareness effort proved to be a significant step in breaking the silence around menopause. By the end of the visit, the women showed increased confidence in discussing their health issues. Some even expressed their willingness to educate others in their community.
As a group, we learned the importance of grassroots-level engagement in spreading awareness. The visit reinforced the need for continued efforts to provide accessible health education to rural women.
Conclusion
Our field visit to Shivli village was an enriching experience for both the women we interacted with and our team. It highlighted the need for consistent awareness campaigns on menopause and women’s health. Moving forward, we plan to organize more such initiatives to ensure that important health topics are discussed openly and women receive the support they deserve.
This visit was not just about educating others; it was about learning, connecting, and making a difference.
