🌟 Wisdom Wednesday-4: Embrace the Change

Welcome, developers, to another episode of 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲! Today, we talk about 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡—through an unusual but powerful lens: 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐊𝐚𝐟𝐤𝐚’𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬
.
The story begins with 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐚, who wakes up one day to find himself transformed into an 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭—a change completely out of his control.

As the story unfolds:
⚫ His 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦, cutting him off.
⚫ He 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐛, and with it, his sense of self-worth.
⚫ Eventually, he is 𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 and 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝—a tragic end.

But while Gregor’s story is bleak, we 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐬 can extract some 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 from it:

🔹 1. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞—𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐭
- Just like Samsa’s transformation, sudden shifts in tech are 𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.
- 𝐊8𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐡, 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭.
- Instead of resisting change, adapt and evolve.

🔹 2. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐲
- Gregor 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲, leading to misunderstanding and isolation.
- In tech, we see the same struggle between 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐨𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.
- Clear communication prevents friction and strengthens collaboration.

🔹 3. 𝐃𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥
- Gregor only saw himself as 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤—once that was gone, so was his significance.
- As Devs, if your 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞, 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐫𝐞.
- Adaptability is the key to long-term success.

Gregor’s story is tragic, but as Devs, we have a choice:
✔️ 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞.
✔️ 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲.
✔️ 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲.
✔️ 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭—𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤.

Kafka’s world is 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤, but it teaches us what 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞.
