From Her First Hackathon to a Game-Changing Project: BitNize

Hi, I’m Carol! Lately, I’ve been speaking with builders who took part in Rootstock hackathons, and the stories I’ve come across have been nothing short of inspiring. From first-time hackers to experienced developers pushing boundaries, it’s incredible to see how much can be built in just a few days.

One story that stood out to me is Prisca Chidimma’s. Coming from an agricultural economics background, Prisca had always been drawn to coding but wasn’t sure how to break into the field. After two internships, she decided to challenge herself in a completely new way—by joining her first hackathon at Bitcoin Nashville 2024. That leap led her to build BitNize, a tokenization platform on Rootstock that helps small and medium businesses turn their equity into tokens, making it easier for them to raise funds and attract investors.

As Prisca puts it, “It’s a win-win. Businesses get a transparent way to raise money, and investors can buy, sell, or even sell back their equity to the company if they want.”

Prisca’s choice to build on Rootstock came down to its focus on Bitcoin. “I had no idea a Bitcoin layer 2 like Rootstock existed until I got to the hackathon,” she says. “But the easy-to-use developer docs and the super-responsive Discord community made the whole process a breeze.”

Since then, Prisca has landed a job as a developer, confidently saying, “Now I can definitely call myself a developer.”
