Overview

This report provides an analysis of fuel consumption, fleet maintenance, and driver performance to optimize cost efficiency and operational effectiveness. The data-driven insights highlight key trends in fuel expenditure, maintenance costs, and driver performance to support decision-making for improved fleet operations.

Key Metrics

  • Total Maintenance Cost: ₦81M

  • Total Fuel Cost: ₦192M

  • Company Downtime: 885.60 hours

  • Fuel Efficiency: 5.92 km per liter

  • Highest Fuel Efficiency: 164.64 km per liter

  • Lowest Fuel Efficiency: Notable inefficiencies recorded

  • Total Fuel Purchased: 250.62K liters

  • Total Kilometers Driven: 890M km

Fuel Consumption Analysis

  • Monthly Fuel & Maintenance Costs:

    • The highest fuel cost was recorded in September (₦27.8M), followed by June and August.

    • The lowest monthly fuel cost was recorded in May (₦16.4M).

    • Fuel cost fluctuations indicate seasonal variations and possible inefficiencies.

  • Fuel Purchased vs. Kilometers Driven:

    • A correlation exists between the volume of fuel purchased and the kilometers driven. The correlation chart shows the driver’s name, the kilometers driven, and the liters of fuel used.

    • Some vehicles showed high fuel consumption without a proportional increase in distance covered, suggesting inefficiencies or potential fraud.

  • Top 5 Vehicles by Fuel Cost:

    • Vehicles with the highest fuel costs should be reviewed for possible fuel wastage, inefficiencies, or mechanical issues.
  • Fuel Cost Distribution by Project:

    • The highest fuel consumption was associated with the RKK project (56.72%), followed by KMD (36%), and RLI (6.4%). This might be due to the fact that more cars were allocated to this project than other projects.

    • Fuel budget allocation per project should be re-evaluated based on actual necessity.

Fleet Maintenance Analysis

  • Total Maintenance Cost: ₦81M

  • Average Cost of Repairs: ₦77.88K per repair

  • Longest Repair Duration: 50 days for some vehicles

  • Total Repairs Carried Out: 1,038 repairs across the fleet

  • Maintenance Cost by Workshop:

    • The top 5 workshops with the highest maintenance expenses were:

      • Muhammad Ali Workshop: ₦27.23M

      • Star Bonaco: ₦10.51M

      • Team Mechanic: ₦9.49M

      • Bajus Workshop: 8.3M

      • Ifeco Global Services Ltd.: ₦7.31M

  • Vehicles with High Maintenance Costs:

    • The Toyota Hilux models showed higher-than-average maintenance expenses, indicating potential reliability concerns.

    • Repair Duration Analysis:

      • Some vehicles spent over 40 days in repair, impacting operational efficiency.

      • The longest repair durations were observed in Toyota and Hilux models.

Driver Performance Analysis

  • Top 10 High Fuel-Purchasing Drivers:

    • Yakubu Abdulkadir, Hamisu Abubakar, Aaron, Amos, and Musa Epoh had the highest fuel purchases.

    • These drivers should be assessed for potential excessive fuel consumption or inefficiencies.

  • Top Performing Drivers (Fuel Efficiency):

    • Ibrahim Aliyu (17.53 km/l), Friday (10.77 km/l), and Abang Daniel (8.74 km/l) recorded the highest fuel efficiencies.

    • It is worthy of note also that the number of vehicles driven can be a determining factor of fuel efficiency.

  • Bottom-Performing Drivers (Fuel Efficiency):

    • Okwoche Sunday (4.75 km/l) and Segun Fanou (4.72 km/l) had the lowest fuel efficiency.

    • Additional training or vehicle inspections may be necessary to improve performance.

  • Top Long-Distance Drivers:

    • Danlami Madaki (861K km), Yakubu Isah (574K km), and Umar Ibrahim (287K km) covered the most distance.

Recommendations & Action Plan

Fuel Consumption Optimization

  • Implement stricter fuel monitoring to reduce excess consumption and prevent fraud.

  • Regular fuel efficiency training for low-performing drivers.

  • Investigate high-fuel-consuming vehicles for potential mechanical issues.

Fleet Maintenance Cost Reduction

  • Review contracts with high-cost maintenance workshops for cost efficiency.

  • Prioritize preventive vehicle servicing to reduce long repair durations.

  • Consider vehicle replacement strategy for models with high repair frequency.

Driver Performance Improvement

  • Recognize top-performing drivers and incentivize fuel-efficient driving habits.

  • Monitor bottom-performing drivers and implement corrective measures (e.g., additional training or performance tracking).

  • Review driver assignments based on historical fuel consumption and maintenance records.

Conclusion

This analysis highlights key inefficiencies in fuel consumption, fleet maintenance, and driver performance. Addressing these issues through data-driven decision-making will lead to significant cost savings and improved operational efficiency.

By implementing the recommendations outlined, the fleet management system can optimize fuel usage, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance driver performance, ultimately improving overall company profitability.
