Edge Computing: Rethinking Data Processing for "Edge Computing: Rethinking Data Processing in the Age of the Internet of Things"

The Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the way devices interact with each other and with people. However, the sheer volume of data generated by IoT devices has revealed limitations in traditional cloud-based data processing models. Peripheral computing is coming on the scene, a paradigm shift that brings computing closer to the data generation source.
Peripheral computing involves processing data locally, on devices or nearby servers, rather than sending it to centralized cloud servers. This approach reduces latency, improves real-time decision-making, and minimizes bandwidth usage. For example, in smart cities, peripheral computing can allow traffic lights to adjust in real time depending on the flow of vehicles, without waiting for instructions from a remote server.
Industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and autonomous vehicles are already using edge computing.
