Welcome to The Low-Level Log!

Hello and welcome to The Low-Level Log! Before I start writing about my low-level journey, I wanted to introduce myself to the community.

My name is Andrew, and I have just over two years of development experience, mainly in full-stack web development. While I’m comfortable building front-end UIs with React, I really enjoy backend work. API development, database design, and administration are where I feel most at home.

Something about working with data just clicks for me. Unlike front-end development—where your work is often subject to a wide range of opinions (like “the border radius should be 13px, NOT 15px”)—backend development feels much more straightforward. When building APIs and working with databases, there’s usually a clear, measurable goal: Does the endpoint return the required data in the correct format? If yes, great—move on. If not, refactor until it does. This clarity is a big reason why I’ve decided to dive deeper into low-level concepts.

With low-level programming, you can’t just get away with anything. Coming from web development and languages like JavaScript, I’ve been used to the flexibility of doing whatever I want because the language allows it. While that’s great for moving fast and shipping products quickly, it has always felt a little off to me. The more I heard senior developers complain about JavaScript, the more I wanted to understand why they had issues with it.

That curiosity led me here. I’m writing this blog to reinforce the concepts I learn as I explore how and why things work at a lower level.

I’m excited for this journey, and I hope my articles provide value to those who read them. I’m always open to feedback—especially on technical topics. Also, I’ve never written a blog before, and I’ve never been particularly great at writing, so bear with me while I figure this out.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next one!
