Competitor Analysis - Takeaways

Competitor analysis isn’t what it used to be.

We’ve all spent hours comparing features, pricing, and reviews. But that’s not how customers think. Your real competitors aren’t just the obvious ones. They’re whoever your customer turns to in order to get their job done.

Here’s my take on how to find them:
1️⃣ Where do your customers research? (This depends on their size)
SMBs: Reddit, YouTube, niche communities
Mid-market: G2, Capterra, LinkedIn
Enterprises: Gartner, peer recommendations

2️⃣ Who are they switching from?
Zoom didn’t just compete with Webex. It lost customers to Loom & Slack huddles.

3️⃣ What’s the real disruptor?
It’s not Netflix vs. Disney+—it’s TikTok & YouTube capturing attention.

Sometimes, it’s not another product but a behavioral shift 🙂. The simplest way sometimes is to ask the customer: If we didn’t exist, what would you use? and other times it can be critically thinking from customer perspective.
