Winifred Harriet Asante, currently employed at SumsureIQ as a data analyst, is a dynamic mathematician, data scientist, and AI enthusiast passionate about transforming raw data into powerful insights through mathematical modeling and machine learning. With a BSc in Mathematics from KNUST and an MSc in Mathematical Sciences from AIMS Ghana, she has built expertise in data analytics, computational methods, and optimization.

Soon after completing her masters, she worked as a business analyst for Korier Realty further entrenching her decision to pivot away from her original path in medicine. This transition did not come easy but with support from her community and a real passion to find herself, it is a decision she does not regret making.

Her work spans multiple industries, from building an AI-powered recommendation systems to enhancing retail forecasting and modeling public health trends. Currently, she applies her expertise in data analytics and machine learning to drive innovation in the retail market sector.

Beyond her professional work, Winifred is dedicated to mentoring young minds in STEM, inspiring the next generation of data-driven problem solvers. She believes in the power of mathematics and AI to shape industries, drive innovation, and create meaningful impact.

Challenges she faced

One of the biggest challenges Winifred faced was transitioning from medicine to mathematics. Initially, she struggled with concepts that didn’t come as easy to her, a first for her brilliant mind. This did not stop her as she persevered through despite the doubts and naysayers. In time, she found a mentor who gave her the second wind she dearly needed, a mentor who patiently guided her when she met challenges, reigniting her confidence and deepening her passion for diverse problem solving through mathematics.

Winifred however didn’t completely abandon her prior path in medicine. Her work extends to public health, where she has contributed to modeling health trends and disease patterns. Such models are crucial for policymakers and healthcare providers in anticipating outbreaks and allocating resources effectively.
